According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Barcelona summer signing Rodri has quickly established himself as one of the influential figures in the dressing room, earning the respect of his teammates despite not being among the club's official captains.

The Spanish midfielder's experience, personality and leadership qualities have made him an important presence within Hansi Flick's squad. His influence has become particularly noticeable as Barcelona attempt to recover from consecutive defeats against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

The Catalan club have endured a disappointing period following those losses, with Rodri attracting criticism for his performance during the Clasico. Some supporters believe Frenkie de Jong deserves more opportunities in the starting lineup after the midfielder struggled to deliver his usual level of performance against Real Madrid.

Nevertheless, his latest display does not change the importance he holds within the team. Barcelona have several young players who still need guidance, making experienced figures such as Rodri essential to maintaining confidence and stability during difficult moments.

Flick has previously highlighted the importance of having players capable of accepting responsibility when results become disappointing. Although captain Raphinha has frequently taken the initiative, Rodri has also developed into an important voice among his teammates.

His leadership qualities were particularly evident following Barcelona's defeats to PSG and Real Madrid. Rodri joined Raphinha and the other senior leaders in arranging a team lunch, an initiative aimed at improving togetherness, rebuilding confidence and encouraging a positive atmosphere within the dressing room.

Barcelona's decision to secure his signature was not simply motivated by the need to strengthen their midfield. The club recognised an opportunity to recruit one of the finest players in that position, while also adding valuable experience and leadership to the squad.

Rodri's arrival was therefore considered important beyond his technical abilities. His presence offers younger teammates guidance, particularly when the team encounters difficult periods.

The midfielder has also enjoyed considerable support from Barcelona supporters since arriving. He received an enthusiastic welcome during his first appearance at the Joan Gamper Trophy and has subsequently become a regular starter under Flick.

Although his Clasico performance has generated criticism, Rodri's overall influence remains valuable. His contribution extends beyond footballing responsibilities, as Barcelona continue looking to restore unity, confidence and consistency within the squad.
