CHE VS MNU: How Manchester United Could Line-up Against Chelsea Ahead of Premier League Clash

According to a report published by Manchester Evening News on Friday, October 30, 2026, Michael Carrick is determined to guide Manchester United to a much-needed victory when they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The club have reportedly decided to give the manager more time to improve the team's performances and results.

Carrick has experienced a difficult period in charge, with Manchester United recording only two wins from their first 12 games in all competitions. The disappointing run has intensified speculation surrounding his future as manager at Old Trafford.

The situation has become increasingly frustrating for United, particularly after their third-place Premier League finish last season earned them a place in the Champions League. Their struggles this term, however, have put Carrick under considerable pressure to turn things around.

The upcoming clash against Chelsea will provide another major examination of his managerial ability. Xabi Alonso’s side currently sit fifth in the Premier League standings, meaning United will face a difficult challenge as they attempt to secure all three points. Carrick must carefully consider his starting lineup while trying to restore confidence among his players and maintain the trust of the club's hierarchy.

Despite Chelsea’s strong position in the table, there are weaknesses United could exploit. Joao Pedro is expected to miss Saturday’s match through injury, while Chelsea’s vulnerability during set pieces could also offer the visitors an opportunity. The Blues have already conceded eight goals from such situations, more than any other team in the Premier League.

Senne Lammens is expected to remain between the posts, given the lack of strong competition for the goalkeeper's position. United’s inability to consistently keep clean sheets has attracted criticism, although the Belgian youngster cannot be blamed entirely for the team's defensive shortcomings.

At the back, Leny Yoro could continue operating at right-back, even though central defence remains his preferred position. Harry Maguire is expected to partner Lisandro Martinez in the heart of the defence, with the latter's return giving United additional experience and stability.

Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot is likely to retain his place at left-back despite receiving criticism for his performances in that role. Carrick's decision not to place greater trust in younger players as alternatives has also raised concerns about his defensive selections.

In midfield, Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba are expected to start together, while Kobbie Mainoo may have to settle for a gradual return rather than being rushed straight into the starting lineup.

Further forward, Amad Diallo and Youri Tielemans could be handed creative responsibilities, while Bruno Fernandes is expected to return to the team following his recent disagreement with Carrick. Bryan Mbeumo is tipped to lead the attack, even though he will be playing in a position that does not suit his natural preferences.

The United manager could make two changes to the starting lineup following the disappointing 3-0 loss to Bournemouth. Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes are potential replacements for Ayden Heaven and Mason Mount as Carrick searches for the right combination to challenge Chelsea.

Predicted Manchester United XI vs Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Senne Lammens, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Diogo Dalot, Andrey Santos, Carlos Baleba, Amad Diallo, Bruno Fernandes, Youri Tielemans, Bryan Mbeumo.
