Being One Of The Captains Is A Pleasure For Me, And A Special Feeling For My Family –Caicedo

According to a report by Evening Standard on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo wants to become a more vocal leader on the pitch as he looks to repay the trust shown in him by manager Xabi Alonso.

The Ecuador international returned to the starting line-up under Alonso during Chelsea’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday after spending time out injured.

Although Caicedo is already part of Chelsea’s leadership group at the club’s Cobham training ground, the 24-year-old believes he must improve his communication with teammates during matches.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, the midfielder said Alonso’s confidence in him would motivate him to keep improving.

"With Xabi I am going to keep developing, for sure, and show him why he trusts me," Caicedo said.

He also explained that previous coaches had encouraged him to communicate more during games, despite his natural preference for leading through his performances.

"I think every coach tells me that I can improve talking on the pitch, you know? Because they know that I'm a leader, but it will be better for me if I start talking more with the players. I try my best, but it's not in my nature. So when I'm not able to talk, I just try to show even more," Caicedo stated.

Caicedo pointed to former Chelsea defender Thiago Silva as an example of the leadership qualities he hopes to develop. The Brazilian was known for helping teammates and setting an example during his time at Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder added that being among Chelsea’s captains carried personal significance, including for his family. He acknowledged that speaking more does not come naturally to him but remains determined to lead through his actions.

"Now being one of the captains is a pleasure for me, and a special feeling for my family. Even if I'm not a player who likes to talk a lot, I like to show through what I do, so others can see my example," he concluded.

Chelsea, who are sixth in the Premier League table and eight points behind leaders Manchester City, are scheduled to travel to Everton on Saturday. Caicedo’s return and his growing leadership responsibilities will be important as Alonso continues to shape the team.
