According to a report by Football Transfer on Friday October 30, 2026, Xabi Alonso, manager of Chelsea, has denied rumors that Estevao Willian, a young Brazilian who has had few opportunities to shine this season, could go out on loan in January. Alonso has insisted that Willian is still in his plans.
The 19-year-old had a promising first season with Chelsea, making 36 appearances across all competitions and scoring eight goals. But since Alonso took control, things have changed drastically for him.
With only 172 minutes played out of a possible 990 in all competitions, Estevao has failed to earn a Premier League start in the 2026–27 season.
On Wednesday, the Brazilian was once again an unused substitute in a Carabao Cup loss to Liverpool, further highlighting his lack of participation.
While Estevao has failed to unseat Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers in the attacking positions, Pedro Neto has solidified his position as Alonso’s go-to right winger.
Several European clubs are reportedly interested in signing the youngster before the January transfer window because he is becoming more and more frustrated with his diminished role.
According to reports, PSG is keeping a close eye on his situation, and other interested clubs are ready to investigate possibilities should Chelsea change their mind.
Alonso has made it plain that a January loan move is not being considered, and Chelsea had already named Estevao one of their untouchable players.
The Spanish manager reassured fans that the teen would get opportunities as the season goes on, speaking before Chelsea's match with Manchester United.
The season is still in its early stages, Alonso said, so everyone will have plenty of chances to make an impact. He went on to say that Estevao's predicament was just a phase in the process of adaptation.
Despite the youth's diminished role, the Chelsea manager lauded his professionalism, training efforts, and drive to make it big, saying that the issue had nothing to do with his attitude.
Alonso took responsibility for the selection decisions that have reduced Estevao's playing time and admitted that players' frustration is understandable when they are underutilized.
Opportunities can arise at any moment during a demanding season, so he expects everyone on the team to stay prepared.
In addition, the manager has admitted that he keeps in touch with the young Brazilian, making sure that he is actively involved in talks regarding his progress and future with Chelsea.
Alonso is certain that the gifted attacker will establish himself as a key player for Chelsea before the season ends, so the Blues are not planning to let Estevao leave just yet.
