According to a report by BBC SPORT on Sunday October 18, 2026, Declan Rice delivered an influential performance as Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, with the midfielder playing a crucial role in the decisive goal.
The England international provided the assist for Noni Madueke's 80th-minute strike, helping Mikel Arteta's side claim all three points in a closely contested encounter on Sunday.
Rice demonstrated his importance to Arsenal through his distribution, attacking contributions and ability to create opportunities. His decisive involvement came when he picked out Madueke with a well-timed pass near the edge of the penalty area. The winger subsequently fired towards goal, with his effort taking a deflection before finding the back of the net.
The breakthrough arrived after Arsenal had struggled to convert their dominance into goals. The visitors controlled much of the possession during the first half, enjoying approximately 76 per cent of the ball after 30 minutes. However, Nottingham Forest defended resolutely and prevented the Gunners from establishing an early advantage.
Rice remained influential as Arsenal continued searching for an opening. In the 72nd minute, the midfielder nearly scored after receiving a pass from Jurrien Timber, but his effort from inside the penalty area sailed narrowly over the crossbar. The opportunity demonstrated his willingness to contribute beyond his defensive responsibilities.
The Arsenal midfielder also helped his team maintain pressure through set-piece situations. He took several corners during the encounter, although Nottingham Forest's defenders dealt with many of the deliveries. His involvement in these attacking situations provided Arsenal with additional opportunities to threaten the hosts.
Madueke's introduction at half-time eventually proved decisive. The winger brought additional attacking impetus before combining with Rice for the goal that separated both teams.
Arsenal faced late pressure as Nottingham Forest searched desperately for an equaliser. Chris Wood came close in the 89th minute, but a crucial goal-line clearance preserved the visitors' advantage. Murillo also dragged an effort narrowly wide during stoppage time.
Rice's assist, near-goal contribution and overall influence made him a deserving candidate for Arsenal's Man of the Match award.
