According to a report by Reuters on Sunday, October 18, 2026, the English Premier League table has experienced significant changes following Sunday's matches, with Manchester United dropping points against Leeds United, Brighton recording a convincing 5-0 victory over Crystal Palace and Bournemouth defeating Sunderland 2-0.
Manchester United missed an opportunity to improve their position after being held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United at Elland Road. Bryan Mbeumo gave United the lead in the 35th minute, finishing a cross from Youri Tielemans to put Michael Carrick's side in front.
However, Leeds responded after the interval when Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored in the 51st minute to bring the home side level. Despite both teams searching for a winning goal, neither could find a breakthrough before the final whistle.
The result left Manchester United in 13th position with seven points from seven matches, increasing the pressure on Carrick to improve the team's performances. Leeds, meanwhile, continued their encouraging campaign with another valuable point.
Brighton produced one of the most remarkable performances of the weekend by thrashing Crystal Palace 5-0. The Seagulls made an explosive start, with a Jaydee Canvot own goal opening the scoring before Diego Gomez stunned the visitors with a spectacular effort from inside his own half.
Yasin Ayari added another goal before the break, while Charalampos Kostoulas and Jack Hinshelwood completed the emphatic victory in the second half. The result lifted Brighton to 16 points, placing them second in the standings at that stage of Sunday's action, five points behind Manchester City.
Bournemouth also secured an important three points after defeating Sunderland 2-0. Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring in the sixth minute, while Evanilson doubled the advantage shortly after the restart. Sunderland's task became more difficult after Kevin Danso received a red card in the first half.
The victory helped Bournemouth move out of the relegation zone, while Sunderland remained among the teams struggling near the bottom of the table.
Meanwhile, Manchester City maintained their position at the top after defeating Ipswich Town 3-2 on Saturday. Chelsea also strengthened their position with a 2-0 away victory over Everton, while Liverpool came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1.
The Premier League title race remains competitive, with Manchester City setting the pace and Brighton demonstrating their ability to challenge the leading sides. Chelsea and Liverpool are also looking to maintain their momentum as the campaign progresses.
For Manchester United, the draw against Leeds represents another missed opportunity. Carrick will need to find a way to turn promising performances into victories if his team hopes to climb the table in the coming weeks.
The standings could change further following Arsenal's match against Nottingham Forest on Sunday evening, making the outcome of that fixture important for the teams competing near the top.
