"It's not in my nature" - Chelsea star Moises Caicedo reveals what every coach wants him to improve

According to a report by Football London on Friday, October 16, 2026, the Ecuadorian international believes he can become a more effective player by taking greater responsibility for directing and encouraging his teammates during matches.

Since joining Chelsea from Brighton and Hove Albion, Caicedo has developed into an important figure in the club’s midfield. His performances, work rate and determination have strengthened his position within the squad, but he recognises that leadership requires more than demonstrating quality with the ball.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, the midfielder explained that several coaches have encouraged him to become more vocal because they believe he has the potential to lead the team effectively.

"I think every coach tells me that I can improve talking on the pitch, you know? Because they know that I'm a leader, but it will be better for me if I start talking more with the players. I try my best, but it's not in my nature," he said.

Caicedo acknowledged that verbal communication can sometimes be challenging for him. Nevertheless, he remains determined to contribute to the team by setting an example through his performances, discipline and commitment on the pitch.

The 24-year-old also highlighted former Chelsea defender Thiago Silva as someone whose leadership qualities left a lasting impression on him. He admired the Brazilian’s willingness to support teammates, share his experience and maintain high standards within the dressing room.

Now among Chelsea’s captains, Caicedo considers the responsibility a significant achievement and a source of pride for his family. He hopes to follow the example of previous leaders while continuing to influence matches through his dedication and consistency.

His comments follow an interrupted beginning to the 2026-27 season, during which injuries affected his availability during the opening weeks. However, his return to Chelsea’s starting lineup against Bournemouth provided an encouraging boost, as he produced a strong performance in the reported 5-1 victory.

Chelsea will be eager to keep the midfielder fit as the club approaches a challenging sequence of fixtures against Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Caicedo’s determination to improve his communication could further strengthen his leadership role as Chelsea seek consistency and success throughout the campaign.
