According to Football London on Friday, October 16, 2026, Chelsea midfielder Moisés Caicedo says improving his on-field communication is a goal shared by his coaches. Although they see him as a natural leader, he admits that speaking up during matches does not come easily to him.
Since moving from Brighton & Hove Albion, the Ecuadorian has become an important player at Stamford Bridge. The 24-year-old believes he can develop further by taking a more active role in directing and supporting his teammates during games.
In an interview with Chelsea’s official website, Caicedo said his coaches regularly urge him to communicate more because they believe he has the potential to be an influential leader. He explained that he is making an effort, even though being vocal is not part of his natural temperament.
When words do not come easily, Caicedo said he tries to lead through his performances and actions on the pitch.
He also pointed to former Chelsea defender Thiago Silva as a model of leadership, praising the Brazilian’s support for teammates and the standards he set in the dressing room.
Now one of Chelsea’s captains, Caicedo called the role a special honour for himself and his family. He hopes to build on the example set by previous leaders while continuing to lead through his effort, determination and performances.
His remarks follow an interrupted start to the 2026–27 season, with injuries restricting his playing time in the opening weeks. Caicedo returned to the starting XI against Bournemouth and impressed in Chelsea’s reported 5–1 win.
Chelsea will be keen for him to stay fit as the club faces a demanding schedule, including upcoming matches against Everton, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United.
