Confirmed: Real Madrid Star’s Yellow Card vs Villarreal Overturned

According to a report by Madrid Universal on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Real Madrid have successfully appealed the yellow card shown to Ibrahima Konate during their La Liga clash against Villarreal, reducing his booking total from four to three and boosting his chances of playing against Barcelona in the upcoming El Clasico on October 25.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee overturned the referee’s decision after reviewing video evidence presented by Real Madrid. The ruling comes as a major relief for the Spanish giants, who were concerned that the French defender could be suspended for their crucial encounter with Barcelona.

Before the appeal was upheld, Konate risked missing El Clasico if he received another yellow card during Sunday’s match against Sevilla. However, the successful challenge has eased those concerns, allowing him to approach the upcoming fixtures with less pressure regarding his disciplinary record.

Konate was booked by referee Isidro Diaz de Mera during Real Madrid’s match against Villarreal. The incident occurred in the 81st minute when the defender was penalised for an alleged foul on Villarreal forward Gerard Moreno.

According to the referee’s report, Konate received the yellow card for bringing down Moreno while challenging for possession. The official judged that the defender had interrupted the attacker’s progress and prevented a potentially dangerous attacking opportunity.

Real Madrid contested the decision and lodged an appeal, submitting video footage to support their case. The club maintained that the evidence contradicted the circumstances described in the referee’s report, prompting the disciplinary authorities to reassess the incident.

Following a review of the footage and the club’s arguments, the committee determined that the original booking resulted from a significant factual error. The video evidence reportedly indicated that Konate had not made physical contact with Moreno during the incident.

Consequently, the disciplinary authorities overturned the yellow card and amended the defender’s record, reducing his total number of bookings from four to three.

The ruling represents a significant boost for Real Madrid as they prepare for a challenging sequence of matches. Konate’s availability could strengthen their defensive options for the encounter with Sevilla before they turn their attention to the highly anticipated showdown against Barcelona.

However, Real Madrid will still be without Vinicius Junior for El Clasico. The Brazilian forward has reportedly been handed a four-match suspension by the Disciplinary Committee following his red card against Villarreal.

With Konate’s appeal successfully resolved, Real Madrid can now concentrate on their upcoming fixtures while addressing the remaining disciplinary and selection challenges facing the squad.
