Chelsea have emerged as contenders to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yasin Ayari, joining Turkish giants Galatasaray in the race for his signature as uncertainty grows over his contract situation.
According to a report published by FootballTransfers on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the Blues are monitoring the 23-year-old Sweden international, whose contract with Brighton is set to run out at the end of the current season. The Seagulls, however, have an option to prolong his stay by a further year.
Ayari has become a key contributor under Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler, with his performances this season attracting interest from a number of potential suitors.
Despite his growing importance to the team, negotiations over an improved contract have reportedly stalled. Talks began before the summer but have yet to produce an agreement.
According to sources referenced by TEAMtalk, Brighton have not exercised the option to extend Ayari's existing deal, even though the midfielder's representatives had expected the club to activate the clause.
Chelsea are monitoring the developments as they consider strengthening their midfield in future transfer windows.
The club's interest may also be connected to sporting director Paul Winstanley, who worked as Brighton's head of scouting before leaving in November 2022. Reports suggest that Winstanley played a part in recognising Ayari's potential during his time with the south-coast club.
The relationship between Chelsea and Brighton has produced several high-profile transfers in recent years. Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella and Joao Pedro are among the players who have moved from Brighton to Stamford Bridge.
Ayari could follow in their footsteps, with Chelsea continuing to examine the market for midfield reinforcements.
However, the Blues will face competition from Galatasaray, who remain keen on the midfielder after exploring the possibility of signing him during the previous summer transfer window. The Turkish club are continuing to follow his contractual situation.
Galatasaray reportedly consider Ayari a possible alternative to Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes as they assess their midfield targets. His younger age and potentially lower transfer cost could make the Brighton player an attractive option.
Interest is also emerging from Saudi Pro League clubs, which have reportedly made enquiries about his availability. In addition, several Premier League teams are believed to be tracking his development.
Ayari has provided two assists in Brighton's first six matches of the season, demonstrating his importance to the team's attacking transitions and build-up play.
His creativity and ability to influence matches from midfield have helped Hurzeler's team enjoy an encouraging opening to the campaign.
Brighton must now decide how best to protect their interests and prevent the possible departure of a player who has become an important part of their squad.
Exercising the 12-month extension option would offer the club greater control over his immediate future. However, with negotiations over a new contract still at a standstill, uncertainty remains over whether Ayari will continue at the Amex Stadium beyond this season.
