‘I don’t care who gets back fit’ —Ferdinand insists ‘top class’ Man Utd star has to start every game

According to Football365 on Sunday, October 18, 2026, Ferdinand was impressed by Yoro’s display during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United. The former England international praised the defender’s growing confidence, improved positioning and ability to handle dangerous crosses, arguing that his recent performances justify a permanent place in the team.

Speaking on his programme, Rio Presents, Ferdinand made his position clear, emphasising that Yoro should be given the opportunity to establish himself through consistent appearances.

“I don’t care who gets back fit now, I think he needs to stay in the team, prove his worth,” Ferdinand said.

The former United centre-back also commended Yoro’s defensive work, particularly his ability to deal with threats at the back post. He described the youngster’s performance as “top drawer” and “top class”, suggesting that the defender has demonstrated the quality required to compete regularly at the highest level.

Ferdinand believes Yoro has improved considerably with every appearance and would benefit from maintaining his place in Carrick’s starting eleven. He also pointed to the defender’s performances against Real Madrid in the Champions League and his displays for France as evidence of his growing maturity and confidence.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s defensive problems became more complicated during the encounter with Leeds after Lisandro Martinez was forced to leave the pitch at half-time because of an injury. Noussair Mazraoui came on as his replacement, but he was involved in the sequence that resulted in Leeds scoring their equaliser from a corner.

The result was disappointing for United, who had hoped to secure a victory, but the performance provided encouraging signs regarding the development of younger players such as Yoro.

Carrick described the match as a “fresh start”, signalling his intention to build momentum and improve the team’s performances. However, he also stressed that the players must remain focused and continue working hard rather than assume that progress is guaranteed.

Ferdinand’s endorsement places additional attention on Yoro’s role in United’s defensive plans. With competition for places expected to intensify as injured players recover, the young defender’s consistency could prove important in determining whether he retains his starting position.

For Ferdinand, Yoro’s recent displays have provided sufficient evidence that the defender deserves continued trust and opportunities to demonstrate his abilities.
