Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has praised Romeo Lavia and Estevao after their excellent performances in the Blues 2-0 Premier League win at Stamford Bridge against Manchester United, as reported by Football London on Saturday October 31 2026.
Chelsea got back to winning ways with goals from Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer in the second half to secure all three points. Lisandro Martinez was also shown a red card after picking up two yellows.
Speaking after the game Alonso said both teams created numerous chances in a tight first half but was pleased with his players after the break. He said: "We talked about having more control, we were going to try to have more possession and be in control of the game.
"I was really pleased with the way the boys responded. We took control of the game and scored the first goal through Morgan and then Cole got a penalty to put the game to bed."
Alonso also praised Estevao's performance. He revealed he told the Brazilian teenager he would be starting after their game against Tottenham.
"I was so pleased with him. He's a real attacking threat and creates chances. He's in tune with the fans." He also singled out Lavia for his excellent performance.
The Belgian was given the chance to step up after Jordan Henderson was unavailable due to illness and played the full 90 minutes after playing the full game against Liverpool midweek.
"He's been playing brilliantly over the last couple of weeks. He's been linking up the back four with the front of the team and he's been playing some excellent switches of play. He's making some great decisions," Alonso said.
"He's had some injury problems in the past but he's feeling better. He's feeling more confident and he's ready for more minutes."
Alonso also praised his goalkeeper Mike Penders for bouncing back from his error against Manchester United's previous opponents. He said the youngster has been playing well in recent games and kept another clean sheet.
Alonso's side are now back in the top four of the Premier League and the win will give them a confidence boost ahead of their next league game against Sunderland next Sunday.
