EPL: He’d be top scorer – Ahmet Cakar makes huge claim on Osimhen

According to a report by Daily Post on Friday October 16, 2026, former Turkish referee and football commentator Ahmet Çakar has claimed that Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen would become the Premier League’s top scorer if he played in the English top flight.

Çakar made the statement while discussing the Nigerian international’s performance during Galatasaray’s Champions League encounter with Barcelona in midweek.

According to the commentator, Osimhen possesses the quality to play for any club in the world and has the ability to finish as the leading goalscorer in England.

Speaking on the Libero TV YouTube channel, Çakar said: “Osimhen, you know, he could play for any team in the world, he’d be the top scorer in the Premier League.”

Despite his strong endorsement of the 27-year-old, Çakar was critical of Galatasaray’s performance against Barcelona, questioning the team's ability to provide adequate support for the striker.

“I didn’t see anything like that in this match [Galatasaray vs Barcelona]. I admit, he has just recovered from injury, but what kind of performance did the team give him that he should play like that?” he added.

His comments suggest that he believes Osimhen’s potential goes beyond what he was able to demonstrate against the Spanish giants.

The former referee also acknowledged that the striker had only recently returned from injury, a factor that could have affected his sharpness and overall performance.

Osimhen has established himself as an important player for Galatasaray, with his physical strength, movement, aerial ability and finishing making him a dangerous opponent for defenders.

His qualities have also made him a subject of discussion whenever the possibility of playing in one of Europe's major leagues arises.

The Premier League is renowned for its intensity and competitiveness, and becoming its top scorer would be a significant achievement for any forward. However, Çakar is convinced that Osimhen has the ability to meet that challenge.

Nevertheless, his prediction remains an opinion, with a striker's success depending on factors such as fitness, consistency, tactical suitability and the quality of service provided by teammates.

Osimhen will now be hoping to put his Champions League performance behind him and return to scoring form when Galatasaray face Gençlerbirliği in the Turkish Super Lig.

The Nigerian striker will be eager to help his team secure victory while demonstrating the qualities that have earned him praise from Çakar.
