According to a report by Barca Universal on Friday October 30, 2026, Barcelona players have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with Hansi Flick's strict hotel arrangements, with some believing that spending more time away from their families is affecting their recovery.
According to ARA journalist Xavi Hernandez Navarro, several members of the dressing room would prefer to return home between matches rather than remain in hotels, despite the German manager's emphasis on maintaining strict recovery routines.
The issue has attracted attention following Barcelona's consecutive defeats against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid in the Champions League and La Liga. After the Clasico defeat, Flick admitted that his players lacked the freshness required to perform at their best.
The disagreement reportedly became noticeable after Barcelona defeated Real Betis 5-2 at Estadio de La Cartuja. Severe weather conditions prevented the squad from flying back that evening. The team captains preferred waiting at the airport for an improvement in the weather, but Flick eventually instructed everyone to spend the night at a hotel in Seville.
The players returned to Barcelona the following day before travelling to Paris just two days later. Flick believes the disrupted schedule affected their preparations for the subsequent matches.
The manager has also employed sleep consultant Anna West to monitor several recovery details. Her responsibilities include bedroom temperatures, bedding arrangements, screen exposure and individual sleeping habits.
However, some players reportedly believe that having dinner with their families and sleeping in their own beds would improve their mental freshness.
This disagreement is not entirely new at Barcelona. Former captains Carles Puyol and Xavi Hernandez previously challenged unnecessary hotel stays, while Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique eventually accommodated some of their requests.
Flick has maintained his stricter approach, but must now find a balance between his standards and the squad's preferences. With Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid approaching, his recovery arrangements could become an important talking point.
