According to a report by Football London on Sunday October 25, 2026, Coventry City, managed by Frank Lampard, have also surfaced as a possible destination for defender Fikayo Tomori ahead of January, while Chelsea are allegedly contemplating a move to bring Tomori back to Stamford Bridge.
After signing with Chelsea as an Under-8 prospect, Tomori went on to make 27 appearances for the first team while playing under Lampard. The decline in his playing time, however, led to a January 2021 loan to AC Milan and a subsequent permanent transfer later that year.
The central defender, who is English, has since played in over 200 games for the Italian powerhouse. However, rumors have circulated that manager Ruben Amorim no longer sees him as a key player for the San Siro, casting doubt on his future there.
If Flashscore is to be believed, Milan are open to the idea of selling Tomori during the upcoming January transfer window. The club supposedly has no plans to offer him a new contract when his current one expires at the end of the season, so selling him would be a good financial move.
Tomori has not had many opportunities to play in Serie A, despite appearing in Milan's past two Europa League matches (including Thursday's 3-0 loss to Bournemouth). He supposedly wants to go back to England to resurrect his career after playing barely six minutes in the Italian league this season.
Among the Premier League clubs linked with the defender are Chelsea, although whether Stamford Bridge is a realistic destination is still up for debate. The Blues have a number of central defenders on their roster, and they just added Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace.
Tomori may find a more realistic opportunity to return to English football with Lampard's Coventry City. After Lampard became manager of Chelsea in 2019, he gave the defender opportunities after they had worked together at Derby County.
According to Transfermarkt, Tomori is currently valued at around £8.4 million. It is unclear, though, whether Milan is prepared to accept that amount, so prospective suitors will have to weigh the financial terms carefully before moving forward with a deal.
Tomori may get the consistent playing time he needs if he leaves in January, but Chelsea still has to figure out if it's a good idea to reunite with their former academy product. Coventry's relationship with Lampard may play a significant role in shaping the defender's future actions.
