Chelsea moved into the Premier League’s top four after securing a 2-0 win over Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday, October 17, 2026. According to a report by The Guardian on the same day, Pedro Neto was the match-winner, scoring twice to give Xabi Alonso’s side a valuable three points.
The result was significant for both clubs, as Chelsea recorded their first Premier League clean sheet since January, while Everton suffered their first league defeat of the campaign. The visitors produced a strong second-half display to take control of the contest and secure the victory.
Chelsea needed just 43 seconds after the interval to take the lead. Jorrel Hato made an impressive run down the left flank before delivering the ball into the penalty area, allowing Neto to finish the opportunity and put the Blues ahead.
The Portuguese international struck again in the 90th minute to put the result beyond doubt. Following a free-kick from Jordan Henderson, the ball caused confusion inside Everton’s penalty area before Neto found the net to complete his brace.
The victory lifted Chelsea to fourth place in the standings, with 13 points from seven matches. Their record now stands at four wins, one draw and two defeats, leaving them with a goal difference of plus four.
Manchester City remain top of the table with 18 points after winning their opening six league games. Arsenal occupy second place on 15 points, while Brighton are third with 13 points and a better goal difference than Chelsea.
Brentford and Everton follow in fifth and sixth positions respectively, with both sides having collected 10 points. Brentford have played six matches, while Everton have completed seven.
Leeds United, Hull City and Liverpool occupy seventh, eighth and ninth places, with nine points apiece from six games. Ipswich Town also have nine points and sit tenth.
Newcastle United are eleventh with eight points, followed by Crystal Palace on seven. Manchester United and Coventry City have six points each, occupying thirteenth and fourteenth positions respectively.
Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa are fifteenth and sixteenth with five points apiece, while Sunderland sit seventeenth on four points. Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur have three points each, with Fulham at the bottom of the table on two points from six matches.
Chelsea will now prepare for their next Premier League assignment against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, October 24. Alonso will be eager to maintain the momentum generated by the victory over Everton as his team continues its push for Champions League qualification.
Although the result has strengthened Chelsea’s position in the top four, the table could change as other clubs complete their outstanding fixtures. Everton, meanwhile, will be hoping to bounce back quickly after losing their unbeaten league record.
