According to a report by BBC Sport on Thursday, November 5, 2026, the UEFA Champions League standings have witnessed significant changes following Wednesday's Matchday Four fixtures, with Real Madrid securing a dramatic 3-2 victory, Liverpool suffering a disappointing 3-2 defeat and Arsenal recording an important 2-1 win.
Real Madrid produced an impressive comeback to defeat AEK Athens 3-2, with Federico Valverde scoring a dramatic stoppage-time winner to secure all three points for the Spanish giants.
AEK Athens opened the scoring in the 12th minute through Aboubakary Koita, who converted Luka Jovic's pass. However, Jude Bellingham brought Real Madrid level in the 32nd minute with an outstanding back-heel finish from Marc Cucurella's assist.
After the restart, AEK regained the advantage in the 75th minute when Stavro Pilo finished Koita's pass. Real Madrid responded almost immediately, with Kylian Mbappe equalising three minutes later after receiving Denzel Dumfries' delivery.
The visitors continued pushing for victory, and their efforts finally paid off in the 92nd minute when Valverde fired home Brahim Diaz's pass to complete the comeback. Koita was later shown a red card following the final whistle for unsporting behaviour.
Meanwhile, Liverpool suffered a painful 3-2 defeat against Fenerbahce despite taking the lead twice during the encounter.
Trey Nyoni gave the English side the advantage in the 25th minute with a powerful low strike from outside the penalty area. Fenerbahce responded four minutes later when Mason Greenwood's free-kick deflected off a defender and entered the net.
The teams went into the half-time break level at 1-1. Liverpool moved ahead again in the 69th minute through Alexander Isak, who headed home Cody Gakpo's cross.
However, Fenerbahce refused to surrender. Archie Brown restored parity in the 73rd minute after capitalising on a defensive error before substitute Vedat Muriqi completed the turnaround in the 79th minute, converting Brown's delivery to give the Turkish side a memorable victory.
Arsenal also secured an important 2-1 away victory over Slavia Prague to strengthen their position in the Champions League standings.
Noni Madueke opened the scoring for the Gunners in the ninth minute after receiving a superb pass from Viktor Gyokeres. Arsenal doubled their advantage in the 38th minute when Gyokeres finished clinically inside the penalty area following Mikel Merino's assist.
Slavia Prague improved considerably in the second half and created several dangerous opportunities, but goalkeeper David Raya produced crucial saves to protect Arsenal's advantage.
The home side eventually reduced the deficit through Wiktor Nowak in the 90th minute. However, Mikel Arteta's men remained disciplined during the six minutes of additional time to preserve their 2-1 victory.
These results have added further excitement to the Champions League league phase, with Real Madrid and Arsenal celebrating important victories while Liverpool will be disappointed with their defeat as the battle for qualification continues.
