EPL Table After Manchester City Lost 1-0

According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Brighton claimed a remarkable 1-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, delivering a major setback to Pep Guardiola’s side in their latest Premier League fixture.

Yasin Ayari scored the only goal of the encounter in the 11th minute, punishing City’s defensive weakness with a well-timed finish to give the visitors an early advantage.

Brighton took the lead after Maxim De Cuyper decided against attempting a shot from a promising position and instead delivered the ball to Ayari. The midfielder controlled the opportunity brilliantly before placing a precise effort into the bottom-right corner, beyond the reach of Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

City immediately sought an equaliser and created several promising opportunities. Iliman Ndiaye came close in the 22nd minute when he connected with Elliot Anderson’s lofted pass, but his header went narrowly wide. Three minutes later, Ndiaye tested Donnarumma’s opposite number, Bart Verbruggen, who made an important save to preserve Brighton’s lead.

Erling Haaland found it difficult to operate against Brighton’s disciplined defensive structure, with one of his attempts blocked inside the penalty area. Josko Gvardiol also failed to capitalise on a corner-kick opportunity as City struggled to convert their attacking pressure into a goal before half-time.

Brighton continued to threaten after the restart, with De Cuyper missing a good opportunity before forcing Donnarumma into action with a header in the 54th minute. Manchester City, however, gradually stepped up their efforts in search of an equaliser.

Verbruggen played a crucial role in keeping the visitors ahead, producing an outstanding save to deny Ndiaye in the 52nd minute before the ball struck the post. The Brighton goalkeeper also prevented Matheus Nunes and Haaland from finding the net during another dangerous spell of City’s attack.

Guardiola responded by introducing Rayan Cherki, Nico O’Reilly and Phil Foden as he attempted to change the course of the match. Despite the additional attacking options, Brighton maintained their defensive organisation and continued to frustrate the hosts.

City came close to rescuing a point in the closing stages, with Abdukodir Khusanov and O’Reilly both threatening to score. However, Verbruggen remained outstanding between the posts and denied the home side another opportunity.

Manchester City continued pushing forward during the five minutes of added time but failed to break Brighton’s resistance. Referee Craig Pawson eventually blew the final whistle, confirming an important 1-0 away victory for Brighton at the Etihad Stadium.
