Right-back confirms he's ready to return to Liverpool

Liverpool have a right-back problem and they can solve it in the January transfer window with an easy move.

It's been such a frustrating year and a half. Liverpool knew they were going to have this problem when Trent Alexander-Arnold decided not to extend his contract.

It won't have come out of nowhere. It's clear behind the scenes, he has been manoeuvring towards Real Madrid for quite some time.

Sure, Conor Bradley has been catching the eye and showed himself to be a worthy successor. However, at the same time even before his current injury Bradley had missed on average around 15-20 games per every season he's spent at Liverpool.

These are supposed to be his prime years. But it's clear that Bradley is a very injury-prone player.

So, what did Liverpool do to address those concerns and bring in a replacement for Alexander-Arnold?

Liverpool's failed attempts to replace Alexander-Arnold

They signed a right-back who isn't really a right-back in Jeremie Frimpong. Yes, this is a player who basically played as a winger for Bayer Leverkusen.

A player who wasn't trusted to start in the right-back position for the Netherlands' first-team, let alone at Premier League level.

Frimpong's career at Liverpool has been therefore exactly as expected. Sometimes he has been solid. Going forward he is always going to be a threat. His speed can hurt any opposition team.

However, defensively he is a nightmare and that is why Liverpool have experimented with a wide variety of players in that position.

The latest has been Ronald Araujo who gives Liverpool a lot of defensive solidity but who clearly lacks the edge going forward.

Neco Williams confirms he's ready to join Liverpool

The truth is that Liverpool need to address their needs in the right-back position by entering the market.

And the perfect player for the Reds is someone who was already on the books in the past. Neco Williams came through Liverpool's academy.

He played several games under Jurgen Klopp before leaving for pastures new. At the time, he wasn't ready to be a starter for the Reds.

But now, a few years later, he is absolutely ready. He is one of the best full-backs in the Premier League, and he confirmed that with his performance and goal against Ipswich.

Williams not only scored a goal, he created two chances and won three out of his four ground duels. It was a terrific performance and more confirmation of just how good he is.

The Welshman is absolutely ready to return to Liverpool, his latest performance was a confirmation of that.

Not only does Williams fix the right-back position but because he can play as a left-back as well he provides competition in that area, too.

And he'd add another homegrown player to the club's ranks - something they desperately lack. Liverpool simply need to bring him back. Friday night was merely a confirmation of that.
