Players should be allowed to show their personalities in Saturday's highly anticipated Soweto Derby, according to Roger De Sa, a former South African custodian and coach, as long as their squad is well-composed.

The match between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs is a major event in South African football, and fans can expect a fierce rivalry between the two teams as they compete for honour and crucial points.

Having been on the other side of the intense derby atmosphere, De Sa reminisced on his playing days to provide an explanation for the legitimacy of showboating in a match of this magnitude.

I participated in a Soweto Derby as well. When I was a kid, a Swallows vs. Pirates game was huge, according to De Sa.

When a team enjoys a comfortable lead, the seasoned football figure says, flair shouldn't be discouraged.

According to him, "showboating" should only be done when one is clearly winning.

The tension between derby fun and seriousness is aptly illustrated by his remarks. Tricks, individual flair, and deft touches can excite fans, but doing them at the wrong time can expose a team.

Players will need to show both discipline and ingenuity in order to live up to the high expectations surrounding the Soweto Derby. But once the outcome is under control, De Sa sees no problem with giving talented players a chance to shine.

Intense rivalry and spectacular individual performances are what supporters of South African football are expecting for in this weekend's matchup, which promises to be the next chapter in one of the most storied rivalries in the sport.
