Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch could become a free agent in the next transfer window amid growing uncertainty surrounding his future at Libyan club Al Ittihad.
The 33-year-old winger has reportedly been absent from Al Ittihad's recent league squads under head coach Fouazi Benzarti, sparking speculation that the player and the club could be heading towards a mutual separation. Although no official announcement has been made, the situation has raised questions about where Lorch will continue his career.
Lorch joined Al Ittihad from Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club shortly before Rulani Mokwena took charge of the Libyan side. However, Mokwena subsequently left the club after Al Ittihad failed to qualify for the CAF Champions League. The South African coach has since joined Egyptian outfit Pyramids FC.
Before his move to Libya, Lorch enjoyed an impressive spell at Wydad under Mokwena, helping revive his career and earning recognition on the international stage. He also became one of two South African players to score at the expanded FIFA Club World Cup.
Meanwhile, Lorch was previously linked with Moroccan champions Mas Fes, who strengthened their attacking options by signing South African forwards Tshegofatso Mabasa and Devin Titus. However, negotiations reportedly broke down because the parties could not agree on personal terms.
There have also been reports linking the experienced winger with clubs in Egypt and Algeria, potentially providing alternative destinations if he leaves Al Ittihad.
In South Africa, Kaizer Chiefs were reportedly interested in securing Lorch's services. However, discussions allegedly collapsed after the winger demanded a monthly salary of R450,000, which Amakhosi were unwilling to match.
With his future still uncertain, Lorch faces an important decision about the next stage of his career. His experience in both South African and North African football could attract further interest, although his next destination remains unconfirmed.
