Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Kaylin Swart has been nominated for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women's Goalkeeper of the Year award. The news has been welcomed by South African football supporters and gives the women's game another boost.
The Goalkeeper of the Year category is one of the best-known individual honours at the continental awards. It recognises goalkeepers whose performances and consistency have set them apart from their rivals. A nomination does not guarantee a win, but it places Swart among the players being considered for one of Africa's top individual prizes.
Swart is no stranger to the big stage. She was part of the Banyana Banyana squad that played at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France, South Africa's first appearance at the tournament. She has remained an important part of the national team's goalkeeping group, where she competes with other established shot-stoppers for a place between the posts.
This is also not her first time being recognised by CAF. In 2023, she was nominated for the same award alongside fellow South African international Andile Dlamini. Her latest nomination shows that she remains among the goalkeepers attracting attention across the continent.
The recognition is also good news for Banyana Banyana, who continue to work towards keeping their place among the strongest national teams in Africa. South African supporters will now be hoping that Swart can take the next step and bring the award home.
