Sundowns Ladies Send Strong Message to Africa After Thrashing FUS Rabat to Book CAF Semi-Final Spot
ISMAILIA, EGYPT — 7 NOVEMBER 2026
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have strengthened their reputation as one of Africa's leading women's football teams after securing a convincing 3-0 win over Moroccan side FUS Rabat in the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League on Saturday.
The South African champions produced an impressive display at Ismailia Stadium in Egypt to claim their second victory of the competition and officially secure qualification for the semi-finals.
Coach Godfrey Sapula's team entered the match determined to end their Group A campaign on a high note, and they delivered an excellent performance to achieve their objective.
Sundowns started the encounter with attacking intent, putting FUS Rabat under pressure from the opening stages. Boitumelo Rabale nearly gave the South Africans an early lead, but the Moroccan goalkeeper made crucial saves to prevent her efforts from finding the back of the net.
The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 25th minute when defender Bambanani Mbane rose above the opposition defence to score with a powerful header. Her effort struck the post before crossing the line, giving Sundowns a deserved 1-0 lead.
FUS Rabat looked to find an equaliser before half-time, but goalkeeper Andile Dlamini came to Sundowns' rescue with an important one-on-one save in the 40th minute.
The Pretoria-based outfit went into the break with a narrow advantage before continuing their disciplined and confident approach in the second half. Sundowns controlled the tempo of the match while restricting their opponents' chances of getting back into the contest.
Their dominance finally paid off in the closing stages, with Nthabiseng Majiya finding the net in the 86th minute to extend the lead to 2-0.
Just three minutes later, Karabo Dhlamini converted a penalty in the 89th minute to complete the scoring and seal an emphatic 3-0 victory for Banyana Ba Style.
The victory ensured Sundowns finished at the top of Group A with seven points from three matches, recording two wins and one draw without losing a single game.
They began their campaign with a goalless draw against tournament hosts FC Masar before registering a 2-1 victory over Cameroonian representatives Lekié Football Filles.
Having secured their place in the last four, Sundowns Ladies will now shift their focus towards the semi-finals as they continue their quest to claim a historic third CAF Women's Champions League title.
Their commanding victory over FUS Rabat has further raised expectations among South African football supporters, who will be hoping the reigning African giants can once again demonstrate their quality and bring continental glory back home.
