PIRATES BOMBSHELL Sikhosana Says Chiefs Treated Him Better

PIRATES LEGEND BOMBSHELL! Jerry Sikhosana Reveals How Kaizer Chiefs Showed Him More Respect Than His Former Club

SOUTH AFRICAN FOOTBALL NEWS | 21 OCTOBER 2026

Former Orlando Pirates striker Jerry Sikhosana has expressed his disappointment with his former club after revealing how he was allegedly denied a match ticket despite his legendary status, while arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs showed him kindness and respect.

Sikhosana, affectionately known as “Legodi,” remains one of the most memorable figures in Orlando Pirates' history. His latest comments have raised questions about how football clubs recognise and treat the former players who helped build their reputations.

The former striker believes his contribution to the Buccaneers deserves greater recognition, particularly when supporters look at the star on the club's jersey, which symbolises their historic achievement in African football.

“When you look at the Pirates jersey with a star, the first impression should be, ‘Thank you Jerry Sikhosana, you gave us a star’,” he said, expressing his belief that his contribution should not be forgotten.

Sikhosana Questions Pirates' Treatment

According to Sikhosana, his intention was simply to obtain a match ticket as a former Orlando Pirates player and club legend. However, he claims that his request was not met with the consideration he expected from the team he represented during his playing career.

The experience reportedly left him disappointed, especially because he believes former players should receive recognition from the clubs they served with distinction.

What made the situation particularly painful was the contrast between his experience at Pirates and the assistance he received from their biggest rivals.

Sikhosana explained that Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung showed him attention after learning that he was looking for tickets.

“As I was leaving, I bumped into Jessica Motaung. She was told that Jerry was asking for tickets,” he recalled.

He said Motaung asked how he was doing and reassured him that the club recognised his identity and character, despite the fierce rivalry between the two Soweto giants.

Her reported gesture left Sikhosana reflecting on why a rival club appeared more considerate towards him than his former employers.

A Painful Derby Rivalry

Sikhosana did not hide his frustration as he questioned where the people he had served during his years at Orlando Pirates were when he needed assistance.

“Where are the people I served?” he asked, highlighting the disappointment he felt after the incident.

His remarks carry particular significance because of the intensity of the Soweto Derby, where Pirates and Chiefs supporters fiercely defend their respective clubs.

During his playing days, Sikhosana was celebrated for his contribution to Pirates' success, including the club's memorable 1995 African Champions Cup triumph.

His comments have therefore reopened a broader conversation about how South African football clubs maintain relationships with former players after retirement.

For many supporters, club legends represent more than past achievements. They embody the history, identity and traditions that continue to attract generations of fans.

Whether Orlando Pirates will respond to Sikhosana's concerns remains to be seen. However, his account has placed the spotlight on an important issue: the responsibility clubs have to honour the people who helped establish their legacy.

For Sikhosana, the message is clear: loyalty and service should not be forgotten when a player's career comes to an end.
