Kaizer Chiefs have handed 18-year-old midfielder Teboho Mlangeni his first professional contract, rewarding the Soweto-born player’s progress through the club’s youth structures and his recent success with the South Africa Under-20 national team.

Mlangeni, who hails from Zondi, put pen to paper on a DStv Diski Challenge deal after impressing in the Gauteng Development League and featuring for Amakhosi’s reserve side. The agreement marks a significant step for the teenager, who arrived at Naturena in 2024 from the Augusto Palacios Academy.

His representatives at P Management confirmed the news, congratulating him on what they described as a well-deserved DDC contract. A club source noted that the move represents a clear step up and described Mlangeni as one for the future.

The timing of the deal comes shortly after Mlangeni played a role in helping Amajita secure the COSAFA Cup title in Mozambique last month. South Africa’s Under-20 side defeated the hosts to claim the regional crown and, in the process, qualified for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.

Mlangeni has also represented South Africa at Under-17 level, featuring for Amajimbos and forming part of the squad that competed at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup. His consistency across club and international duties has now earned him formal recognition at Kaizer Chiefs.

Primarily a defensive midfielder with the ability to operate in different central roles, Mlangeni will continue his development in the Diski Challenge as he targets eventual opportunities in the first team. The contract places him firmly within the professional pathway at Naturena and strengthens Chiefs’ pool of young midfield talent.

For a player who has steadily climbed through the ranks since joining the club two years ago, the new deal provides a platform to push for higher levels while remaining part of a competitive reserve environment. Amakhosi continue to invest in academy products, and Mlangeni’s promotion reflects the club’s confidence in his potential.
