Goitseone Phoko’s Future at Siwelele FC in Doubt After Four Months
Botswana national team goalkeeper Goitseone Phoko could be on his way out of Siwelele FC just four months after joining the South African side on a two-year contract.
The 31-year-old joined the club hoping to establish himself as a key member of the squad. However, his future has reportedly become uncertain following a challenging start, with growing indications that he may no longer be part of the club’s long-term plans.
Since arriving at Siwelele, Phoko has made only three league appearances, raising concerns about his role in the team and the reasons behind his limited opportunities.
According to Soccer Laduma, the departure of former coach Lehlohonolo Seema may have contributed to the goalkeeper’s current predicament. The change in the technical team is believed to have affected Phoko’s chances of securing regular playing time.
A source quoted by the publication suggested that the situation had become increasingly difficult for the Botswana international following Seema’s exit, hinting that his spell at the club could soon come to an end.
“When Seema left, it made things difficult for Phoko. It’s over for him there,” the source reportedly stated.
Despite these claims, Siwelele FC has not officially announced any decision regarding the goalkeeper’s future. An update is reportedly expected in the coming days, potentially clarifying whether the club intends to part ways with him.
Phoko’s situation illustrates how coaching changes can influence a player’s position within a team. New technical staff often introduce different tactical approaches and selection preferences, which can leave some players struggling to retain their places in the squad.
For goalkeepers, consistent match action is particularly important for maintaining confidence, sharpness and performance levels. With just three league appearances so far, Phoko could be forced to explore alternatives if his playing opportunities continue to be restricted.
His potential departure could also prompt questions about Siwelele’s plans for the goalkeeping department, including whether the club will rely on its existing options or seek reinforcements in the transfer market.
For now, uncertainty surrounds the Botswana international’s future as supporters await an official statement from the club. If his departure is confirmed, it would bring an unexpectedly early end to a partnership that was initially expected to last two years.
Until Siwelele FC provides formal confirmation, however, reports of Phoko’s exit remain speculative, and no final decision should be assumed.
