Knowledge Musona has revealed that his strong understanding with Khama Billiat dates back to their school days, explaining why the two Zimbabwean stars appear to combine so naturally on the pitch for Scottland FC.
The former Kaizer Chiefs teammates were both on target as Scottland secured a 2-0 victory over Angolan giants Petro de Luanda in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second qualifying round tie. Their goals gave the Zimbabwean champions a valuable advantage ahead of Friday’s return leg in Angola.
Speaking on the Scottland podcast, Musona was asked about his partnership with Billiat and explained that their connection was established long before they became professional footballers.
“It didn’t start now . . . I was playing with Khama right from school,” Musona said.
He added that their familiarity means they understand each other’s movements without needing to communicate constantly.
“We do not need to communicate. He knows where I want the ball, and I know where he wants the ball.”
Their relationship was evident in the first-leg encounter, where both players used their experience to help Scottland break down a stubborn Petro de Luanda defence.
Billiat opened the scoring in the 66th minute after connecting with a cross from substitute Walter Musona. Knowledge Musona then doubled the advantage in the 80th minute, finishing an opportunity created by his long-time teammate.
The victory puts Scottland in a strong position as they pursue a place in the CAF Champions League group stages. However, coach Norman Mapeza has warned his players against complacency, knowing Petro de Luanda will be determined to respond on home soil.
For Scottland, the combination of Musona and Billiat offers valuable experience and attacking quality at a crucial stage of the competition. Their long-standing friendship could continue to play an important role as the team attempts to complete the job in Angola.
