Ouaddou: ‘I’m Different From Riveiro’ – Pirates Coach Explains Animated Touchline Behaviour

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has explained why he is unlikely to adopt a calm approach on the touchline, insisting that his coaching personality is different from that of his predecessor, Jose Riveiro.

Ouaddou made the comments after watching his side secure a narrow 1-0 victory over Sekhukhune United on Saturday, a result that strengthened Pirates’ position as they continue their campaign.

The Moroccan tactician has attracted attention for his animated behaviour during matches, frequently communicating instructions and reacting passionately to events on the pitch.

His approach has drawn comparisons with Riveiro, who was known for maintaining a relatively composed presence in the technical area during his time in charge of the Soweto giants.

However, Ouaddou has made it clear that he does not intend to change his personality simply to match the style of another coach.

By describing himself as different from Riveiro, the Pirates manager appeared to emphasise that every coach has a unique way of managing players and influencing matches from the sidelines.

The 1-0 victory over Sekhukhune United provided another opportunity for Ouaddou to demonstrate his approach, as Pirates worked to secure all three points in a closely contested encounter.

His comments also highlight the contrast between the two coaching personalities, although the ultimate measure of success will be the team's performances and results on the pitch.

Pirates supporters will hope Ouaddou's passionate touchline presence translates into consistent performances as the club pursues its ambitions this season.
