The Carling Knockout Cup match between Siwelele FC and his previous club, Kaizer Chiefs, will not include Happy Mashiane, a defender who has not yet completed his return to the Bloemfontein-based team, according to head coach Godfrey Mosoetsa.
In his search for a fresh chance after leaving Amakhosi, the 28-year-old left back has been training with Siwelele. Mashiane has been participating in the club's training sessions, but he has to wait for the administrative procedures to be finished before he can join the team formally.
Mosoetsa made it clear that the player is still dedicated to training, but he would not be considered for selection until all lingering difficulties are settled. "Right now, there are still some administrative issues, but he is still working hard," he said. Things happening outside of the classroom, the coach said.
The statement from Mosoetsa further highlighted that Mashiane is not yet ready to play in competitive matches since he has not signed an official contract with Siwelele. "He is still training; he hasn't been signed yet so he's not available but it's things being sorted out administratively," he said.
The news extends the time that fans will have to wait before the former Chiefs defender can play competitively again for Siwelele.
After struggling to get consistent playing time during his last spell at Naturena, Mashiane's possible transfer may be a chance to restart his career.
He began his career with the Kaizer Chiefs' youth programs when he was a youngster and was promoted to the first squad in 2019. He made 69 appearances across competitions while playing for the Soweto giants, scoring four goals and assisting on five more.
Nevertheless, he was unable to advance due to fierce rivalry for spots and a lack of opportunity, and he departed from the club in June 2026 after reaching a mutual agreement to end his contract.
Having spent last season on loan from Chiefs, Mashiane is already acquainted with Siwelele, which is an interesting development. If the planned arrangement is finalised, his experience in the Betway Premiership might make him an asset.
Mosoetsa would benefit from Siwelele's pursuit of the player's services since it would provide them access to another veteran option for their roster.
The Carling Knockout match versus Chiefs is coming up soon, and Siwelele has a great chance to advance in the draw.
While the team attempts to resolve the lingering administrative difficulties around Mashiane's probable signing, he will have to wait on the sidelines.
