Bournemouth Humiliate Manchester United 3-0 as Pressure Mounts on Michael Carrick
Man United vs Bournemouth

Manchester United’s troubled season reached a new low on Sunday after Bournemouth secured an emphatic 3-0 victory at Old Trafford.

Goals from Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson condemned United to another painful defeat in front of their supporters. The result extended the Red Devils’ winless run to eight matches in all competitions and placed manager Michael Carrick under even greater pressure.

United began the match needing a strong response after suffering a damaging 4-1 Champions League defeat against Como. However, they produced another disjointed performance and were comfortably beaten by a Bournemouth team that played with greater confidence, intensity and organisation.

Rayan opens the scoring at Old Trafford

Manchester United controlled periods of possession during the opening stages, but they struggled to turn the ball into meaningful opportunities.

Bournemouth remained patient and began exposing gaps in United’s defensive structure. Their breakthrough arrived in the 38th minute when Rayan connected with a delivery and guided his effort beyond goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

The opening goal immediately increased the tension inside Old Trafford. United’s confidence appeared to disappear, while Bournemouth recognised an opportunity to take complete control of the match.

Just three minutes later, Tavernier doubled the visitors’ advantage.

Leny Yoro made a costly defensive mistake, allowing Bournemouth to regain possession in a dangerous area. Tavernier took advantage and finished the chance to give the Cherries a commanding 2-0 lead before half-time.

Boos greeted the Manchester United players as they walked towards the tunnel.

United fail to produce a response

Carrick attempted to change the match by introducing Matheus Cunha after the break. However, United still lacked creativity and urgency in the final third.

Bryan Mbeumo became increasingly isolated, while Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic faced few serious threats. United moved the ball around the visitors’ penalty area but rarely created the type of clear opportunity needed to begin a comeback.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, remained dangerous on the counterattack. Their players pressed aggressively, won important challenges and attacked the spaces behind United’s defence.

The visitors sealed the victory in the 71st minute through Evanilson.

Tyler Adams played the ball into the Brazilian striker’s path before Lammens rushed out of his goal. Evanilson reached it first, moved past the goalkeeper and produced a brilliant finish from outside the penalty area.

His goal completed a miserable afternoon for United and sparked celebrations among the travelling Bournemouth supporters.

Bruno Fernandes decision backfires

One of the biggest talking points came before kick-off when Carrick left captain Bruno Fernandes on the substitutes’ bench.

Harry Maguire received the captain’s armband, while Mason Mount and Youri Tielemans were expected to provide United’s creativity. Carrick described the decision to drop Fernandes as a footballing choice.

However, the decision followed Fernandes’ public criticism of United’s tactical approach during the defeat against Como. The Portuguese midfielder questioned why the team had not pressed more aggressively or taken greater risks against their Champions League opponents.

Carrick’s selection gamble failed to produce the desired response against Bournemouth. United struggled to create chances without their captain, while Fernandes remained on the bench as the home side slipped towards another defeat.

Bournemouth continue remarkable Old Trafford record

The victory represented another memorable result for Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Remarkably, the Cherries have now beaten Manchester United 3-0 at the famous stadium three times in four Premier League seasons. Their growing dominance in this fixture highlights how far United have fallen from the standards once associated with the club.

Bournemouth climbed to 13th position after recording only their second league victory of the season. More importantly, the performance offered evidence that the team can move away from the lower end of the table.

They were faster, stronger and more disciplined than United throughout the contest. Whenever the hosts made a mistake, Bournemouth were ready to punish them.

Manchester United fall to 16th

Manchester United dropped to 16th place following the defeat. They have collected only seven points from their opening eight league matches and remain uncomfortably close to the relegation places.

The Red Devils have won just once in the Premier League this season. They have also failed to win any of their last eight matches across all competitions.

United supporters directed their frustration towards the players, the club’s leadership and the ownership during another difficult afternoon. Some fans continued singing Carrick’s name, although others made their anger clear as Bournemouth added their third goal.

The result will inevitably raise fresh questions about Carrick’s future. United’s performances have lacked consistency, defensive organisation and attacking identity, while the manager’s decisions have come under increasing scrutiny.

United travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in their next Premier League match. Carrick will need an immediate response if he remains in charge.

For Bournemouth, the victory was thoroughly deserved. For Manchester United, it was another humiliating chapter in a season that continues to spiral out of control.
