‘The Somalia game can be played at either Accra Stadium or Essipong’ – NSA Director General

Acting National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Professor Emmanuel Osei Sarpong has confirmed that Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Somalia could be staged at either the Accra Sports Stadium or the Essipong Sports Stadium.

This double header is very crucial for the four-time African champions who really need these wins to enhance their qualification hopes having lost their opening twi matches.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Asempa FM, he said both venues remain under consideration as the Ghana Football Association pushes for the fixture to be moved to the Western Region.

“The game can be played either at the Accra Sports Stadium or at the Essipong Sports Stadium,” he said.

He further explained that the official letter received by the NSA currently identifies the Accra Sports Stadium as the venue, but the GFA has made a request for the match to be played at Essipong.

“Officially, the letter we have states that the game will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium, but the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is pushing for the game to be played at the Essipong Sports Stadium,” he added.

The games are expected to come off on November 12 and 16, in match-day 3 and 4 clashes of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
