According to a report by Manchester Evening News on Monday, October 19, 2026, Manchester United have appointed an experienced communications manager as dissatisfaction with the club’s 2026–27 campaign under Michael Carrick continues to grow.
Carrick was appointed permanent manager after guiding United to third place in the Premier League last season and securing Champions League qualification during his successful interim spell. However, the team have struggled to maintain that progress this term.
United have won only two of their first 10 competitive matches, with their victories coming against Sabah FK and Ipswich Town. Their performances have been marked by inconsistency, missed chances and defensive errors.
The club also suffered a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in Europe after conceding a late equaliser against Tottenham in their previous match. A subsequent 1-1 draw with Leeds United extended their winless run to six games and increased pressure on Carrick.
Speculation about possible replacements has continued, with former Juventus, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Napoli manager Antonio Conte among the names linked with the position. Reports have suggested that representatives of the Italian coach may be interested in the Manchester United job.
Meanwhile, United have officially welcomed Emily Brammeier as their new communications manager for the women’s team. Brammeier, who spent the past decade working as a professional cyclist, announced her appointment on LinkedIn, describing it as an exciting new chapter in her career.
She expressed her enthusiasm about leading communications for Manchester United Women and supporting the growth of women’s football.
Her responsibilities will include promoting stories about the players, developing communication strategies and helping the team reach new audiences. She also thanked club staff for making her feel welcome during her first week.
Brammeier’s appointment is focused entirely on the women’s team and does not affect the situation surrounding the men’s management.
Carrick, meanwhile, remains under increasing pressure to improve United’s results and restore confidence among supporters.
