Arsenal’s Chances of Signing £50m Target Just Got Much Harder

Fulham midfielder Josh King’s first senior England call-up could complicate Arsenal’s reported pursuit of the highly-rated teenager, with interest in his services expected to increase following his international recognition.

According to a report by Football London on Friday, 6 November 2026, King has attracted attention through his performances for Fulham this season, and his inclusion in Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad is likely to strengthen his profile ahead of transfer windows.

Tuchel selected five Arsenal players for England’s final Nations League fixtures. Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ezri Konsa, Eberechi Eze and Ben White were retained, while Declan Rice also returned to the squad. Noni Madueke, however, was left out. King was a notable selection, earning his first opportunity with the senior national team.

The 19-year-old has become a figure in Fulham’s attacking play. He has started all nine of the club’s Premier League matches this season, contributing two goals and one assist. His performances have established him as Fulham’s preferred option in the number ten role.

That development has affected the opportunities available to Emile Smith Rowe, who joined Fulham after coming through Arsenal’s academy. The midfielder has struggled to secure a regular place, making four substitute appearances and accumulating only 40 minutes of action. He has also been left on the bench on several occasions.

Tuchel highlighted King’s versatility as an important reason behind his selection. The youngster can operate on either wing, in central midfield or as a striker, giving England several options when adjusting its approach. His ability to perform in different positions has added to his appeal and could make him valuable to clubs seeking adaptable attacking players.

Arsenal are not alone in tracking his progress. Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United have also reportedly been monitoring the teenager, creating the possibility of competition if Fulham become willing to discuss a transfer.

A move was expected to require a substantial fee. King signed a new four-year contract in July 2025, committing himself to Fulham until June 2029. Football Insider reports that the club would demand around £50 million before considering his departure.

Fulham are not facing financial pressure to sell, giving them little reason to accept a reduced offer. King’s England call-up could further strengthen their negotiating position, particularly if his performances continue to attract attention.

Arsenal are understood to be keen on adding him to their squad as they consider future attacking reinforcements. The club may eventually need to plan for changes in the number ten position, with Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze approaching their late twenties. King is viewed as a promising option for that area.

There is also uncertainty over whether Ethan Nwaneri will develop into a consistent first-team starter. Nico Paz is another player who could interest Arsenal, although the report presents King as the more appealing possibility.

His international recognition could make a difficult pursuit more expensive. Arsenal may therefore face a stronger challenge from rival clubs and Fulham’s firm contract position if they decide to turn their interest into a formal bid.
