Morgan Rogers continued his impressive start to life at Chelsea with a standout display against Manchester United, helping the Blues claim a valuable 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge. The midfielder produced a moment of individual quality on Saturday, finding the net after cutting through United’s midfield and defensive lines before delicately lifting a left-footed effort beyond goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
The strike was Rogers’ sixth since joining Chelsea and followed advice from teammate Joao Pedro, who had encouraged him to practise that type of finish. His contribution further underlined how quickly he has settled into the team, having registered ten goals and assists across his first twelve appearances.
Rogers has already matched Mason Mount’s goal contribution total at Manchester United, despite the latter requiring 80 appearances to reach the same figure. The comparison highlights the immediate impact the former Aston Villa player has made, although his progress has also been supported by the quality and experience around him.
He has developed strong relationships with several Chelsea teammates, particularly close friend Cole Palmer and forward Joao Pedro. Experienced striker Danny Welbeck has also reportedly become an important figure in his development, offering guidance and encouragement as the midfielder continues to establish himself.
Welbeck’s arrival during the summer transfer window attracted attention, with Chelsea making a deliberate effort to bring greater experience into their squad. The former England international joined Jordan Henderson and goalkeeper Emi Martinez as part of the club’s recruitment strategy.
After Chelsea’s victory over United, former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves shared details of a conversation he had with Welbeck away from television cameras. He recalled seeing the striker walking alongside Rogers and praised the role he appeared to be playing in the youngster’s development.
Hargreaves described Welbeck as a dedicated professional during their time at United, noting his willingness to train hard and listen to advice. He then revealed that he had complimented the forward on becoming a mentor to Rogers.
According to Hargreaves, Welbeck responded by explaining that he was constantly encouraging the midfielder to improve because of his considerable ability. The former United player also admitted that he had not fully appreciated Rogers’ physical strength.
Rogers’ performances have strengthened the view that Chelsea secured an important signing, having beaten Arsenal to his services. While questions were raised about the transfer cost and the club’s absence from European competition, his early displays have provided a persuasive response.
FotMob’s Premier League ratings place Rogers fourth among players this season, behind Erling Haaland, Declan Rice and Joao Pedro. His average score of 7.72 also makes him the highest-rated summer arrival in the division, reflecting his strong adaptation and growing influence at Chelsea.
