Chelsea have two reasons to be excited after Strasbourg’s 5-1 demolition as loanee and target shine

According to a report by The Athletic on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Chelsea have received two encouraging updates following Strasbourg's emphatic 5-1 victory over Auxerre, with loanee Dario Essugo and reported transfer target Gessime Yassine producing impressive performances.

Essugo opened the scoring in the 41st minute, while Yassine delivered an outstanding attacking display that could further strengthen Chelsea's interest in securing his signature in a future transfer window.

Chelsea have several reasons to monitor Strasbourg closely, as Filip Jorgensen, Essugo and Genesis Antwi are currently developing their careers at the French club on loan.

Former Chelsea academy graduates Deivid Washington and Omari Kellyman also completed permanent moves to Strasbourg during the summer transfer window.

However, Sunday's victory over Auxerre provided particular encouragement for the Premier League side, both because of Essugo's continued development and Yassine's impressive performances.

Essugo gave Strasbourg the lead with a well taken effort from the edge of the penalty area before continuing to impress with his performances in midfield.

The 21 year old also demonstrated his defensive qualities, recording five tackles and one interception during the encounter.

The midfielder has now registered two goals and one assist in seven Ligue 1 appearances this season, accumulating 381 minutes of playing time.

Meanwhile, Yassine arguably produced the most impressive individual performance of the afternoon. The Moroccan winger provided the assist for Martial Godo's goal before winning a penalty following an excellent individual run.

He subsequently got on the scoresheet twice, first with a left-footed finish inside the penalty area before completing his brace with a close range header.

The 20 year old also played a part in Auxerre's disciplinary problems, with midfielder Lamfia Dioubate receiving a red card for a violent challenge after Yassine had beaten him with an impressive nutmeg.

Yassine's performances have been particularly encouraging this season, with the youngster recording four goals and three assists in nine Ligue 1 appearances, giving him seven goal contributions.

Chelsea are reportedly monitoring his progress as they consider the possibility of making a move for him next summer.

Although the Blues already have several left footed attacking options, including Estevao Willian, Pedro Neto, Geovany Quenda and Cole Palmer, Yassine's recent performances could make him an attractive addition to their attacking department.

His progress in France, alongside Essugo's development during his loan spell, represents another positive development for Chelsea as they continue to monitor the performances of their players and potential transfer targets at Strasbourg.
