According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, British broadcaster Piers Morgan has questioned Michael Carrick’s suitability to manage Manchester United, suggesting that the club should consider former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte as a possible replacement.
Carrick is under increasing pressure following Manchester United’s disappointing start to the Premier League season. The Red Devils have reportedly won just one of their opening seven matches and are currently 13th in the league table.
Morgan believes Manchester United need a manager with the personality, determination and passion to improve the team’s performances. He identified Conte as a potential candidate should the club decide to part ways with Carrick.
Speaking on Sports Uncensored, Morgan said: “Michael Carrick. I am not feeling it. He was a superb player.”
Although Morgan acknowledged Carrick’s quality as a former footballer, he expressed doubts about whether the Englishman has what it takes to lead United through their current difficulties.
The broadcaster also backed Conte, who previously managed Chelsea and has experience competing for major trophies.
“Conte has a problem. He got that fire in the belly which I think United need now,” he added.
Conte is known for his demanding management style, tactical discipline and high expectations of his players. These qualities could appeal to Manchester United supporters who believe the team needs stronger discipline, greater consistency and a more determined approach.
However, appointing the Italian would not necessarily guarantee an immediate improvement in results. Manchester United would have to assess whether his tactical approach and demanding personality would suit the current squad and align with the club’s long-term ambitions.
The report did not indicate that Manchester United have made a decision to dismiss Carrick or opened talks with Conte over the managerial position.
