Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has given an early positive feedback over the condition of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez who suffered a serious injury in Chelsea’s latest outing.
Argentina goalkeeper Martinez collided with two players in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Everton in the English Premier League on Saturday, October 17.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner also suffered a hard fall after the collision that led to an extended medical check-up on the pitch before he was taken to the hospital.
Speaking after the game to the club’s media after Pedro Neto’s brace secured the win for the Blues, Alonso stated that,
“As far as I know, he left the stadium conscious and right now he is in the hospital doing precautionary tests. So let’s see, but that’s what I know so far.”
“We need to wait. Hopefully it won’t be too bad, but we need to wait at the moment.”
On the performance of Martinez’s replacement, Mike Penders, Alonso was happy with the 21 year old Belgian goalkeeper.
“Mike has personality, he’s brave, and we have full trust with him. He did well. He played in the cup games and whenever he’s needed, like the other players whenever they are needed they can perform” Alonso said.
