Just three days after their midweek encounter against Roan United, ZESCO United are back in action this Saturday, facing Nkwazi at Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka.
The transitional season is increasingly shaping up to be a sprint rather than a marathon, with little time to rest between fixtures.
ZESCO head into the fixture on the back of consecutive victories, having scored nine goals against tricky opposition in their last two outings. However, another stern test awaits against a Nkwazi side that usually enjoys playing ZESCO.
Head coach Mwenya Chipepo has struck a confident tone ahead of the encounter, although his message to the players has remained consistent.
“Another tough game. We are confident we have prepared well. There is no easy team at the moment. Playing Nkwazi at their home is going to be a tough one, but we are ready for the match,” Chipepo said.
He also called on fans to rally behind the team. “My appeal to the fans is to continue coming in numbers so that we have the 12th player,” he said.
ZESCO go into the match with eight points from their opening five fixtures in Stream B, two behind leaders Green Eagles.
Nkwazi, meanwhile, occupy eighth position with three points. Chipepo has all the players who were part of the squad for the midweek encounter against Roan United available for selection.
However, the coach remains without Vitalis Ganter, Leonard Mulenga and Brice Sindjo, who are all nursing injuries, while Peter Musukuma and Shemmy Mayembe continue their rehabilitation programmes.
