Pedro Porro is a serious target for Barcelona, but one factor could help Tottenham Hotspur retain the experienced right-back.

Even though the defender only signed a new-five year contract with Spurs this summer, his performances at the World Cup have firmly put him on the radar of some top clubs.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are both been exploring taking Porro back to Spain since the summer, and the Tottenham star’s comments last week suggested that he would be open to such a move.

Porro admitted that he dreams of going back to Spain, refusing to rule out a move to Santiago Bernabeu or Camp Nou.

The latest update on the 27-year-old comes from ER Deportivos (as relayed by Sport Witness), who say that Barca have already begun working on a deal for the Spurs star.

According to the report, the Catalan club recently contacted Porro’s agent about signing him either in the winter market or next summer.

It is revealed that Barca’s interest is primarily being driven by the fact that the former Sporting Lisbon man built a fine partnership down the right for Spain with Lamine Yamal at the World Cup.

Hansi Flick wants to replicate the same partnership at Camp Nou, but they could face competition from Real Madrid, who are also exploring the possibility of bringing Porro to Spain.

The publication adds that the right-back believes that leaving Spurs for one of the two La Liga giants could help him seal his starting right-back berth for La Roja.

Among the two possible destinations, the Tottenham star is thought to prefer a move to Barca over the Spanish capital.

Barca’s financial situation could make Porro pursuit difficult

Sport Witness also relays another report from Cadena Ser, which suggests that Porro is not a priority target for Madrid, who already have Trent Alexander-Arnold and Denzel Dumfries in their squad.

It is also pointed out that Jose Mourinho has used Federico Valverde at right-back position, and Los Blancos are thus not desperate to strengthen that area.

While Barca hierarchy are fans of Porro, it is revealed that his price was ‘too high’ for the club in the summer.

The Blaugrana are also facing complications in complying with Financial Fair Play regulations, which is why they may find it difficult to spend big on the Spurs defender.

According to some sources, it would take around £75m to prise Porro away from Tottenham.
