Bryan Mbeumo: “We have done a lot of right things today, we are disappointed with the result”

According to a post published by football journalist Fabrizio Romano on his X account on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo acknowledged that Manchester United did several things well during their clash with Chelsea but admitted that the defeat was difficult to accept.

United suffered another disappointing result as their inconsistent run of form continued. Chelsea emerged victorious after finding the net twice in the second half, putting Manchester United manager Michael Carrick under further pressure.

In his post-match interview with TNT Sports, Mbeumo explained that the players were unhappy with the outcome despite recognising some positive elements in their overall performance, especially during the first 45 minutes.

"We have done a lot of right things today, we are disappointed with the result," the Manchester United forward stated.

The Cameroonian also discussed the team's improved attacking threat, pointing out that United managed to create more opportunities than they had in their recent fixtures.

"The first half we had a lot of chances, which is a positive. The last few games we didn't create a lot, but obviously they're a good team with qualities," Mbeumo told TNT Sports.

Manchester United started the match with confidence and produced several encouraging attacking moves in the first half. Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo and Mbeumo each had opportunities to break the deadlock, while Matheus Cunha briefly thought he had scored before his goal was ruled out for offside.

Nevertheless, the visitors failed to make their first-half dominance count, giving Chelsea the opportunity to establish control after the restart.

Chelsea broke the deadlock in the 50th minute when Morgan Rogers showcased his individual quality, beating his opponents before delivering a composed finish beyond goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

The situation became even more difficult for United when Lisandro Martínez was sent off after receiving his second yellow card for a foul on Wesley Fofana inside the penalty area.

The resulting spot-kick provided Chelsea with an opportunity to strengthen their advantage, and Cole Palmer made no mistake from 12 yards to put the hosts 2-0 ahead.

Manchester United refused to give up and continued searching for a goal that could bring them back into the contest. Mbeumo almost provided that breakthrough late in the game, but his powerful strike crashed against the crossbar following an intervention from Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders.

While United showed noticeable improvement in their attacking approach during the first half, their inability to turn their chances into goals ultimately cost them dearly.

The latest defeat is likely to intensify questions surrounding Carrick's position as Manchester United struggle to rediscover their best form. The manager must now find a way to improve the team's results and ensure that promising performances translate into victories.
