According to a report by The Sun on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Monterrey forward Diego Rossi attracted attention after appearing to collapse dramatically following accidental contact with a linesman while attempting to take a corner kick against Guadalajara in Mexico.
The unusual incident occurred towards the end of the first half when Rossi attempted to take a quick corner. The 28-year-old inadvertently kicked the back of the assistant referee’s leg, prompting a bizarre reaction from the Monterrey attacker.
Rossi immediately threw himself to the ground before looking up at the official as though questioning the situation. However, the linesman appeared relatively unbothered by the contact and did not react dramatically to the incident.
Footage of the moment circulated on social media, with football fans expressing amusement at the forward’s reaction and questioning why he had fallen to the ground after making contact with the official.
One supporter joked that it was a remarkable tackle, while another questioned the decision to throw himself down in such circumstances. Other fans also made light of the incident, with some suggesting that the linesman had been standing in Rossi’s way as he prepared to take the corner.
The incident provided an unusual talking point during a frustrating afternoon for Rossi, whose side faced difficulties against Guadalajara.
Monterrey had fallen behind in the ninth minute after Roberto Alvarado found the net to give Guadalajara an early advantage. Rossi and his teammates subsequently had to chase the game as they searched for an equaliser.
The Monterrey forward appeared to have rescued a point deep into stoppage time when he bundled the ball into the net in the 95th minute. However, the celebrations were cut short after the goal was disallowed following a VAR review for handball.
The late decision denied Monterrey what would have been a dramatic equaliser and added to Rossi’s frustration after the earlier incident with the assistant referee.
