Barcelona Superstar Left Frustrated by Hansi Flick’s Handling of His Situation

Alejandro Balde’s future at Barcelona is reportedly becoming uncertain as the defender grows increasingly frustrated with his reduced playing time and his inability to secure a regular starting role under manager Hansi Flick.

According to a report by Barca Universal on Monday, November 2, 2026, the Spanish left-back is unhappy with the way his situation is being handled, particularly because he has struggled to understand what is required to win back his place in the starting XI.

One of his major concerns reportedly involves being used in unfamiliar positions during training sessions instead of regularly working in his natural left-back role. The situation has increased tensions between the player and the club, with a possible January departure now being considered.

Balde is also said to be disappointed by the lack of direct communication from Flick about his position and future at Camp Nou. His representatives reportedly feel the manager has not properly explained his plans for the defender, leaving them to gather information mainly from his public comments.

The 22-year-old would reportedly prefer to have an honest conversation with Flick, especially as the German coach previously advised Hector Fort and Marc Casado to seek opportunities elsewhere before the current campaign. Balde believes he deserves the same level of clarity regarding his own situation.

His frustration has reportedly become noticeable within the dressing room, with one senior Barcelona player questioning why the academy graduate is not consistently training in his preferred defensive position.

However, Flick and his coaching staff are believed to have concerns about Balde’s concentration, defensive positioning and decision-making. They reportedly feel he sometimes struggles to judge when to move forward and when to apply pressure on opponents.

Flick has also previously admitted that the defender needs to improve his confidence and conviction. These concerns have reportedly contributed to his reduced involvement, even as Barcelona deal with several defensive injury problems.

Balde’s uncertain position has attracted interest from other clubs, with Manchester United among those monitoring his situation. The Premier League side had reportedly explored the possibility of signing him last summer.

Barcelona, however, are said to favour a permanent transfer rather than a loan deal, as they look to raise funds for defensive reinforcements during the January window.

With dissatisfaction growing and no clear resolution in sight, Balde could face an important decision about his future as he seeks regular playing time and greater clarity over his role under Flick.
