Fenerbahçe Consider January Move for Kelechi Iheanacho as Bursaspor Set Conditions

According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Fenerbahçe are considering a January move for Bursaspor striker Kelechi Iheanacho after his outstanding start to the season attracted attention in Turkey.

The 30-year-old joined Bursaspor on a free transfer from Celtic in July and has quickly established himself as one of the most productive forwards in the Turkish second division. He has scored 16 goals and provided three assists in 12 league appearances for the Green Crocodiles.

Turkish outlet HT Spor reports that Fenerbahçe are monitoring Iheanacho as they plan to strengthen their attack during the winter transfer window. The Istanbul club are looking to improve their forward options as they pursue the Turkish Super Lig title and attempt to close the gap on city rivals Galatasaray.

However, a potential deal may not be straightforward. Reports in Turkey indicate that Fenerbahçe would first need to create room in their foreign-player quota by moving an overseas player out of the squad before they could make a formal approach.

Iheanacho is contracted to Bursaspor until June 2029, giving the club a strong position in any negotiations. Bursaspor president Enes Çelik has also addressed the transfer interest, making it clear that the club would prefer to keep the striker but would consider an offer that was sufficiently high to benefit the club.

Çelik praised Iheanacho’s ability to score even when opportunities appear limited and said he wanted the Nigerian to remain with the team. He added that Bursaspor would assess any exceptional proposal in the club’s best interests, without placing a public asking price on the forward.

The striker has made an immediate impact since arriving in Turkey after leaving Celtic, where he helped the Scottish club win the league title and Scottish Cup last season. His scoring run has also attracted wider attention, with reports highlighting his record-breaking sequence of consecutive league matches with a goal.

Fenerbahçe currently sit fifth in the Turkish Super Lig standings, according to the latest reports, and want greater attacking output. Their managerial change, following İsmail Kartal’s departure after the derby defeat to Galatasaray, adds another layer of uncertainty to their plans. Former Liverpool winger Dirk Kuyt has been placed in interim charge.
