According to a report by Metro on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Chelsea defender Maxence Lacroix could miss the remainder of 2026 after sustaining a serious hamstring injury, creating another selection challenge for manager Xabi Alonso.
The French international suffered the injury during Chelsea's Carabao Cup meeting with Liverpool on Wednesday and was forced to leave the pitch shortly before half-time.
Lacroix reportedly picked up the problem while attempting to track Cody Gakpo's movement. He immediately indicated to the Chelsea technical team that he was unable to continue, raising concerns about the severity of the injury.
Speaking during a press conference on Friday, Alonso confirmed that the defender would be unavailable for Chelsea's remaining fixtures before the November international break.
"Max picked up an injury and we expect he is not going to be ready before the international break. He will be a few weeks out," the Spanish manager said.
However, subsequent reports suggest that further medical examinations identified a grade three hamstring tear. An injury of that nature could require between eight and 12 weeks of recovery, potentially keeping the defender out of action for an extended period.
There are reportedly growing concerns at Stamford Bridge that the 26-year-old may not return until after Christmas, with the possibility of his absence extending into the New Year.
If that recovery timeline is confirmed, Lacroix could miss approximately 10 matches, including significant Premier League encounters against Liverpool and Manchester City in December.
His potential absence would represent a considerable setback for Alonso, considering the defender's importance since joining Chelsea from Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window.
Lacroix has established himself as a key member of the defensive unit, completing the full 90 minutes in seven of Chelsea's opening eight Premier League matches. He has also recorded more playing time than any other member of the squad.
Chelsea are already managing additional fitness concerns involving other important players. Joao Pedro is expected to remain unavailable for several weeks after sustaining a thigh injury.
Captain Reece James is also continuing his rehabilitation following minor knee surgery, leaving Alonso with fewer options as Chelsea prepare for their Premier League meeting with Manchester United.
The club will hope to receive positive updates on the injured players as the busy fixture schedule approaches.
