According to a report by The Punch on Saturday, October 17, 2026, after Saturday's Premier League match between Everton and Chelsea, goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was carted off to the hospital for precautionary tests following a collision with defender Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton.
The Associated Press reports that the incident occurred during the second half at Liverpool's Hill Dickinson Stadium. Branthwaite and Martinez were both hurt as Martinez raced off his line to meet a cross in the penalty area.
The players were attended to by medical personnel from both teams in a hurry. Despite failing a concussion test, Branthwaite kept playing.
However, Martinez was treated on the field for approximately ten minutes before being removed on a stretcher. According to the Associated Press, who cited TNT Sports, the goalkeeper was transported to the hospital.
After coming off the bench, Mike Penders made his Premier League debut for Chelsea.

"From what I understand, he departed from the stadium in a conscious state. Currently, he is undergoing precautionary tests at the hospital, so we will see what happens," Alonso stated.
While Martinez was being led away, several Everton fans booed, according to the Guardian's live coverage.
Chelsea managed to pull out a 2-0 win despite the scare. Pedro Neto gave the away team the win in the 46th and 90th minutes with two goals.
