According to a report by BBC Sport on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Sunderland and Leeds United played out a goalless draw in their Premier League encounter at the Stadium of Light.
Both teams struggled to find a breakthrough in a match affected by strong winds, with Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford producing several important saves to help the visitors secure a point.
Sunderland entered the fixture looking to end a run of four consecutive league defeats, but they found it difficult to establish control during the opening stages. Brian Brobbey threatened to give the hosts an early advantage in the seventh minute, only for Trafford to react quickly and keep out his effort from the edge of the penalty area.
The Dutch striker came close again when he attempted to capitalise on a backpass that was affected by the strong wind. However, neither side managed to convert their opportunities as the first half ended without a goal.
Leeds started the second half positively, with Ethan Ampadu threatening to create an opening after getting behind Sunderland's defence. His low cross was blocked before Tarik Muharemovic headed the visitors' first effort on target, but his attempt lacked the accuracy to beat goalkeeper Robin Roefs.
Sunderland responded through Nilson Angulo, whose curling long-range effort forced Trafford into another save. The hosts appeared to have created a promising opportunity when substitute Omar Alderete connected with a free kick, but the assistant referee raised the offside flag to halt the attack.
Sunderland continued to apply pressure as the match progressed, and Granit Xhaka nearly scored directly from a corner kick when his delivery drifted towards the goal beneath the crossbar.
Leeds also threatened late in the contest when Ao Tanaka's shot caused problems for Roefs. The Sunderland goalkeeper spilled the initial effort but recovered the ball under pressure from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Roefs was called into action again in the 90th minute, denying former Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff before Sunderland's defence cleared another dangerous opportunity during stoppage time.
Despite the late pressure, neither team found a winning goal, and the points were shared at the Stadium of Light.
The result left Sunderland at the bottom of the Premier League table, extending their difficult domestic campaign. Leeds, meanwhile, remained seventh with 11 points, recording their best start to a Premier League season since 2002/03.
