FUL 1-0 HUL: Match Review And Updated English Premier League Table

According to a report published by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Fulham finally secured their first Premier League win of the campaign by beating Hull City 1-0 at Craven Cottage. Nigeria international Alex Iwobi scored the decisive goal, helping the London club claim a much-needed victory and reducing the pressure on head coach Alvaro Arbeloa.

Before the encounter, Fulham had endured a difficult opening to the season, recording two draws and four losses in their first six league matches. Their disappointing run came to an end thanks to Iwobi's first-half strike, which proved sufficient to overcome a Hull team that offered little attacking threat.

Fulham started positively and almost took the lead in the third minute when Iwobi's effort deflected off a defender and narrowly cleared the crossbar.

The hosts maintained their attacking pressure, forcing Konstantinos Tzolakis into action on several occasions. The Hull goalkeeper struggled to deal with Oscar Bobb's free-kick initially, spilling the ball before recovering to prevent Fulham from capitalising.

However, Fulham eventually found the breakthrough through Iwobi. Sander Berge passed the ball to the Nigerian midfielder on the edge of the penalty area, and he connected with a first-time strike that found the bottom corner of the net.

The opener boosted Fulham's confidence and helped them dictate the tempo of the match. Josh King subsequently came close to extending the home side's advantage, but Tzolakis made a crucial save with his leg to stop the forward's effort from a narrow angle.

Hull struggled to make a significant impact before the interval and went into the dressing room one goal behind after failing to cope with Fulham's attacking approach.

Fulham resumed the contest with the intention of adding another goal and securing a more comfortable lead. King had another promising opportunity after receiving a pass in a dangerous position, but Tzolakis once again used his leg to keep the ball out.

Iwobi continued to cause problems for the visitors and almost scored again when he attempted to guide the ball into the net from close range. His effort, however, was denied by the alert Hull goalkeeper.

The Super Eagles star later created another opportunity by delivering an inviting cross towards Gonzalo Garcia. The forward connected with a header, but the ball struck the crossbar, denying Fulham a second goal.

Although the hosts enjoyed considerable control and created several scoring chances, they could not find another breakthrough. Their task became more complicated when Ryan Sessegnon received a late red card, raising the possibility of a tense finish.

Fulham nevertheless remained organised and successfully protected their narrow lead until the referee brought the match to an end.

The victory marked an important turning point for Fulham, ending their six-match winless start to the league campaign. Hull City, meanwhile, suffered another disappointing result, extending their winless run in the Premier League to five matches.
