According to a report by BBC SPORT on Sunday October 18, 2026, Aston Villa Women came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Liverpool Women, with Chasity Grant scoring the equaliser before an own goal from Grace Fisk handed the hosts all three points.
Liverpool initially took control of the contest, but Villa responded impressively after the break to complete their comeback.
Liverpool made a promising start and created several opportunities during the opening stages. Their early pressure eventually paid off in the 16th minute when Natalia Ramos found the net with an excellent right-footed strike from outside the penalty area. Fuka Nagano provided the assist as Ramos fired into the top-right corner to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
The visitors continued to threaten, with Mia Enderby and Cornelia Kapocs testing Aston Villa goalkeeper Akane Okuma. The Japanese goalkeeper produced several important saves to prevent Liverpool from extending their lead. Kapocs also came close with attempts from different positions, but Villa managed to reach half-time trailing by just one goal.
Aston Villa made two substitutions at the interval, introducing Oriane Jean-François and Rofiat Imuran in an attempt to improve their performance. Liverpool also brought on Marie-Therese Höbinger as both teams looked to gain control of the midfield.
The hosts gradually increased their attacking pressure after the restart. Amalie Vangsgaard and Imuran tested Liverpool goalkeeper Khiara Keating, while Villa continued to threaten from corners and quick attacking transitions.
Their persistence paid off in the 62nd minute when Grant equalised. The forward finished confidently with a right-footed effort from the right side of the penalty area, sending the ball into the top-left corner. Okuma was credited with the assist after initiating a swift counterattack.
Villa completed their comeback ten minutes later when Liverpool defender Grace Fisk inadvertently turned the ball into her own net in the 72nd minute. The unfortunate incident gave the hosts a crucial 2-1 lead.
Liverpool pushed for an equaliser during the closing stages, creating several opportunities through Beata Olsson, Alice Bergström and Vivien Endemann. However, Okuma remained composed and made important saves to preserve Villa's advantage.
Despite four minutes of added time, Liverpool could not find another goal. Aston Villa held on until the final whistle to claim an important 2-1 victory after an impressive second-half comeback.
