Former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho believes the club's Premier League record of conceding just 15 goals in a season is more likely to be broken than Arsenal's famous Invincibles achievement.
According to a report by The Chelsea Chronicle on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, Carvalho discussed both historic achievements during an appearance on The Obi One podcast, comparing Chelsea's defensive excellence in 2004/05 with Arsenal's unbeaten 2003/04 campaign.
Chelsea conceded only 15 goals during Jose Mourinho's first season in charge, with Carvalho forming an impressive defensive partnership with John Terry.
Meanwhile, Arsenal became the first Premier League side to complete a 38-game season without defeat, recording 26 victories and 12 draws under Arsene Wenger.
Asked which achievement he would rather have been part of, Carvalho admitted that both records deserved recognition.
"I don’t know. To be fair, I’m a defender so just conceding \[15\] goals is a big achievement. But, of course, not losing in a season is unbelievable and you have to give credit to Arsenal."
Carvalho also revealed that he believed Arsenal could challenge Chelsea's defensive record last season, particularly because of their performances under Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners had an impressive defensive partnership between William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, with goalkeeper David Raya also playing an important role.
However, Arsenal eventually conceded 27 Premier League goals, missing the opportunity to get close to Chelsea's long-standing benchmark.
"Last year, Arsenal were defending so well. I thought they could come close. But I saw John Terry celebrating \[when the record was safe\]," Carvalho added.
The former Portugal international ultimately believes Chelsea's defensive achievement could be surpassed before Arsenal's unbeaten record.
"I think so. It’s not easy but it can be possible," he said.
Carvalho also reflected on his six-year partnership with Terry at Stamford Bridge, explaining how their contrasting qualities helped them become one of the Premier League's most successful defensive pairings.
He praised Terry's strength and aerial ability while highlighting his own pace and agility as important qualities that complemented the Chelsea captain.
