According to a report by Daily Post on Friday October 16, 2026, Golden Eaglets head coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere has expressed confidence that Nigeria can bounce back from their opening defeat to Niger Republic when they face Côte d’Ivoire in the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Championship.
Nigeria began their campaign with a disappointing 2-1 loss to Niger, leaving them under pressure to secure victory in Saturday’s crucial encounter against the Ivorians.
Côte d’Ivoire drew their opening match against Niger and have one point ahead of the meeting with Nigeria. The Golden Eaglets will therefore be determined to claim all three points and improve their position in the competition.
Despite the setback, Uwejamomere insists that his players remain in good spirits and are prepared for the challenge.
“We had a setback in the game against Niger Republic, but we are in good spirits to overcome it as we play Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday,” he told thenff.com.
The coach acknowledged the importance of the fixture, explaining that the technical crew have studied their opponents and identified their strengths and weaknesses.
“It is a dicey situation. We are calm and reminding the players of how we want to play. We have analysed Côte d’Ivoire, how they play, their strengths and weaknesses,” he added.
Nigeria will now look to turn their determination into a positive result as they seek to recover from their opening defeat and keep their hopes in the tournament on track.
